ASTHMA & ALLERGY MANAGEMENT

Asthma and Allergy Management

ASTHMA

If your child has asthma it is very important that we see him/her. Regular follow-up appointments are necessary to ensure your child has the best opportunity to manage and control symptoms to achieve a higher quality of life. We typically see all of our asthma patients at least twice a year; however, depending on your child’s symptoms will determine if more visits are needed.

Reasons we need to see your child include:
  • If your child has been using his/her rescue inhaler more frequently (needing more than 1 inhaler a month)
  • If asthma is interfering with exercise/sports
  • If an ER/inpatient visit is required to manage an attack
  • If more than 1 day of school is missed in a month
Discussions at appointment may include:
  • Identifying triggers
  • Education on how to use an inhaler properly
  • Recognizing the stages of an attack
  • Having an Asthma Action Plan. This should be reviewed and updated at least once a year.
  • Completing and reviewing an Asthma Control Test (ACT). This should be completed at least twice a year.
An Asthma Control Test (ACT) tool helps us manage your asthma. To save time you can print the forms here, fill it out, and bring form to your child’s appointment.

ALLERGY MANAGEMENT

Rainbow Kids Clinic tests for environmental, drug/medication, and food allergies.

Allergies are the most common and underdiagnosed diseases. Over 50 million people in America suffer from allergies, and approximately 55% of all US citizens test positive to one or more allergens.

One in 13 children are affected by food allergies in the US each year. That's approximately 2 children in every classroom. Talk with your doctor today to learn more.

Talk with your doctor today and see if allergy immunotherapy is right for your child.
